Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center expands PET/CT mobile access
Doubling the available appointments each month offers improved services to cancer patients in Prince William County
Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) is proud to announce expansion of its mobile PET/CT program. Beginning October 6, the ambulatory PET/CT unit will be available four days per month at the Sentara Century Building, on the campus of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center on Opitz Blvd. in Woodbridge.
By doubling the availability of the mobile PET/CT unit each month, Sentara can provide an advanced level of medical imaging to more people living in southern Prince William County.
PET/CT – Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography – combines images from a PET scan and a CT scan, performed at the same time on the same machine. When the results of the scans are put together, they provide more complete information than either test alone. This helps Sentara’s medical professionals with staging, monitoring, and effective treatment planning for people receiving oncology care services.
“By increasing the days our PET/CT unit is here, and by offering appointments on Fridays and Saturdays, Sentara is working to make the care process more convenient and streamlined for our community,” said Heather Causseaux, SNVMC oncology service line director. “Being able to serve more people in the community with this state-of-the art technology is a wonderful way for us to continue expanding our oncology program.”
PET/CT Schedule for 2023 (Fridays and Saturdays):
- September 15 and 16
- October 6 and 7
- October 20 and 21
- November 3 and 4
- November 17 and 18
- December 1 and 2
- December 15 and 16
“To best serve the people in our community, we need to be proactive in our approach to all that we do. We must continue to look at how we can improve what we are doing, develop better services, and provide better care with better outcomes. Expanding access to the PET/CT mobile unit here in Northern Virginia is an excellent example of Sentara responding to the needs of our patients,” said Jeff Joyner, SNVMC president.
SNVMC is dedicated to providing a range of oncology services and support to the community. In June 2019, Sentara introduced the Sentara Cancer Network Resource Center for Oncology patients, families, and survivors at the Sentara Century Building. The central location provides access to existing services located in the Century Building, such as Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Physical Therapy, and other specialists, making it a destination cancer center in Woodbridge, Virginia.
