Before joining Sentara Neurology Specialists as the Chief of Neurology, Dr. Grunsfeld served as the director of stroke and neurocritical care at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. He currently serves as the clinical lead for the Sentara Healthcare neuroscience high performance team, and has a special interest in stroke, disorders of consciousness, neurointensive EEG monitoring, traumatic brain injury, and exercise physiology. Throughout the years, he has participated in research and conducted presentations on subjects such as status epilepticus, thyroid hormones, cardiopulmonary complications of brain injury, neurocritical disorders and care, status epilepticus, dementia and other cognitive disorders and connectivity and digital medical innovation in the medical field.
Dr. Grunsfeld earned his medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDNJ) in New Brunswick, N.J., and went on to complete his internal medicine internship, neurology residency and neurological critical care fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both neurology and vascular neurology, and is certified by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties in Neurocritical Care. Dr. Grunsfeld is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Neurocritical Care Society and the American Stroke Association.
