Aortic Program Coordinator
Lauren Gillis is the lead adult nurse practitioner and program coordinator for the Sentara Aortic Center. She has been working with Sentara since August, 2014. Lauren works closely with the Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeons in the care and management of pre-operative and post-operative patients. Lauren is responsible for the center’s chronic aortic surveillance program, which tracks aortic growth over time in order to prevent aortic dissection.
Lauren's goal is to provide high quality, compassionate care with the whole patient in mind. Her training allows her to conduct inpatient and outpatient consults, perform history and physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic testing as well as determine treatment plans and prescribe necessary medications. She takes a lead role in tracking aortic quality outcomes as well as continuing to build and expand aortic services to a regional market. She is also experienced in the pre-op and post-op management of patients within the general cardiac surgery population.
Lauren lives in Chesapeake with her husband and 3 children.
