Patti Montes has been with Sentara Healthcare for more than 35 years. Patti spent the majority of her career at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital where she has excelled at several roles including nurse manager, unit coordinator, and emergency management coordinator. It was in the Emergency Department, where Patti has worked for 30 years, where she first discovered her passion for emergency preparedness.

Patti began her role as an emergency management coordinator for Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in 2002. In 2017, Patti assumed the role of System Manager for Emergency Management/Business Continuity where she is responsible for development and coordination of the mitigation, preparedness, and response programs for all of Sentara Healthcare.

In her current role as Emergency Management System Manager, Patti serves as a representative for Sentara on federal, state, regional and local committees involved in emergency management. She is knowledgeable on the several types of crisis trainings Sentara coordinates, as well as the types of preventative measures Sentara implements to prepare for different crisis events.

In addition, Patti served 13 years as a volunteer paramedic with the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue squad where she also served as a Field Training Officer for new volunteers from EMT to Paramedic. Patti received a Recognition for Heroism from Governor Allen and a Medal of Merit from Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services during her tenure with the volunteer rescue squad. Patti is a single mother with one daughter and one granddaughter.
