Martha Jefferson Hospital to offer online childbirth classes

Martha Jefferson Hospital is making it easier for expecting parents to get information about childbirth without having to take a trip to the hospital.
The hospital is now offering a childbirth class online. Once parents register, they get a password and will have access to the site for 30 days.

They can learn about the discomforts of labor, managing labor, understanding medications, cesarean section births, postpartum depression after delivery and more.

Betsy Collins who coordinates the class says this can be a convenient option for parents who aren’t always located in the same place.

“Today our families are scattered. They live an hour away. Some of them, the support person is working out of town for the week and they come home on the weekends. Our folks are working 2 and 3 jobs. So, the evening classes are just not suitable. We heard that and wanted to give you an option,” said Betsy Collins, cCoordinator of maternity education at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Collins says there’s a lot of childbirth information on the internet, but often times it’s not always accurate. The goal of this new class is to get correct information out there to expecting parents.
