Sentara RMH employees raise nearly $96,000
Sentara RMH employees have good reason to celebrate. They have raised $95,909 through the 2015 Employee Gifts Campaign, an annual fundraiser that supports general equipment and program needs at the hospital as well as the Employee Relief Fund, established to assist hospital staff members who are facing a financial crisis due to serious illness or other unfortunate personal circumstances.
"The campaign raised 120 percent of this year’s goal of $80,000," said Janet Wendelken, development officer for the RMH Foundation. "More than 460 staff members gave to the campaign, which ran from May 27 through July 3."
The campaign theme was "Be the Spark!" inspired by the Katy Perry song "Firework." Employees gathered July 8 at 2 p.m. on the patio outside the hospital cafe to learn the total amount raised and to dance in celebration to the Perry song. Sentara RMH Wellness Center fitness instructor Kathe Scripture choreographed steps to the song, and a number of senior hospital leaders joined their co-workers for the celebration.
"This generosity shows that our Sentara RMH employees care about their patients, their co-workers, their work, and this hospital," said Sentara RMH President Jim Krauss. "These funds will go a long way to fulfilling our mission to improve health every day. The members of the Sentara RMH team truly understand that giving will make our hospital better for our community.”
The Employee Gifts Campaign has been held annually since 1975.
