Terry Gilliland is senior vice president and chief medical officer for Sentara Healthcare. In this capacity, he is responsible for clinical effectiveness, patient safety and quality, Sentara Medical Group, and physician integration for Sentara Healthcare’s 12 hospitals, 465,000-member Optima health plan, 750 employed physicians and more than 2,500 network physicians.
Before joining Sentara Healthcare in 2013, Terry spent 17 years with Kaiser Permanente in their Colorado and Mid-Atlantic regions, most recently serving as associate medical director for the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group. Terry practiced in Mountain View, Calif., before joining the Colorado Permanente Medical Group in 1995.
Terry graduated from UCLA School of Medicine and completed his general surgery internship and residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. He was a Sloan Fellow and received a Master of Science in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2008.
