Sentara on the Peninsula receives recognitions
Healthgrades and Becker’s Hospital Review award Sentara hospitals distinctions for quality, safety and patient experience
Sentara CarePlex Hospital and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital recently received quality recognitions from Healthgrades and Becker’s Hospital Review.
Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about physicians and medical facilities, awarded both hospitals the Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. Sentara CarePlex Hospital and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital are two of 443 hospitals that received the distinction which represents the top 15% of hospitals in the nation for patient experience. Healthgrades evaluated 3,489 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2015 to March 2016 in order to identify hospital performance in this area.
Additionally, Healthgrades awarded both facilities the Patient Safety Excellence Award™ which recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events. Hospitals with this award are in the top 10% in the nation for patient safety. The awards are given based on patient safety ratings which evaluate the quality of care and safety at a hospital by measuring the rate at which serious, potentially preventable complications and adverse events occurred in the hospital.
Becker’s Hospital Review also named SCH as one of 53 hospitals with the lowest serious complication rates. The listing was formed using the PSI 90 measure, known as the Patient Safety and Adverse Events Composite. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, PSI 90 is the weighted average of the observed-to-expected ratios for various component indicators, such as pressure ulcer rate, sepsis, in-hospital fall with hip fracture and postoperative respiratory failure, among others.
