Sentara Urgent Care eliminates the waiting game

Most people don’t plan an illness, but now Sentara is offering a new way to plan for treatment. Through a partnership with Clockwise.MD, a national appointment management system, Sentara Urgent Care offers a service where patients can reserve a spot in line when they need care. By logging on to SentaraUrgentCare.com before their arrival at the practice, patients can now choose the time that’s convenient for them and then show up at their reserved time.

What began earlier this year as a pilot in the Sentara Urgent Care site in Williamsburg has been expanded to include every Sentara Urgent Care in Hampton Roads. In its first month of use in Williamsburg, more than 100 patients had accessed the service and reserved a spot, reporting greater satisfaction and convenience.

Sentara Medical Group leadership formed a task force, which introduced and implemented the program. They wanted to increase convenience and accessibility, while also addressing patient concerns about having to sit in a common lobby area for extended wait times when they were not feeling well. They are now convinced that this new program successfully addresses all these areas.

As an expanded feature, Sentara is also displaying current wait times for all its urgent care sites online, so that patients can select a location that is more convenient, is less busy and offers an option to reserve a spot. Sentara hopes these changes will make the inconvenience of an illness a little easier to manage.
