Healogics, the nation’s leading and largest wound care management company, recently awarded the Sentara Wound Healing Center at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center with its highest honor naming it the Center of the Year in the Atlantic Zone. The award distinguishes the center as one with the highest healing outcomes, lowest days to heal rate and highest patient satisfaction rate out of 629 centers across the nation.

To qualify for the prestigious distinction, the Sentara Wound Healing Center was required to earn a series of preliminary awards – the Center of Distinction and Center of Excellence – that are based on progressively stringent patient satisfaction and clinical outcome performance indicators.

For example, the center met or exceeded a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92%, and a wound healing rate of at least 91% in less than 31 median days in a two-year timeframe, four years in a row.  Further the center is the only one in Virginia that has earned the Center of Distinction and Center of Excellence awards for four consecutive years.

“Having the Wound Healing Center receive this incredible distinction is a true testament to our talented and dedicated team and the impressive work they do to improve health every day,” said Brian Landry, program director at the Sentara Wound Healing Center in Williamsburg.  “We are committed to providing our patients in the community with the highest quality of care and the best experience possible.”

The Sentara Wound Healing Center receives more than 5,700 patient visits a year from people suffering from slow and non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcer, traumatic and post-surgical wounds, among other chronic wounds.  The center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy – a form of treatment that uses a high-pressure chamber to produce very high levels of oxygen in the blood and tissues of the body, helping the body heal.
