Phyllis Anderson joined Sentara Healthcare in October 2019 as the Senior Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Phyllis is responsible for the organization’s marketing and corporate communications functions, including brand development, strategy, creative services, digital strategy, division marketing, public relations, government relations and the Sentara Foundation. She drives awareness and utilization of the system’s provider and health plan services and stewards the Sentara Healthcare brand.
Her extensive, multi-industry background encompasses strong consumer and business marketing perspectives. Phyllis most recently served Express Scripts as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. She previously served as Vice President of Marketing for insurer Humana and Vice President, Strategic Initiatives for Bank of America. In earlier positions at Nabisco Brands Inc. and the Pillsbury Company, she focused on direct-to-consumer marketing.
Her achievements have been recognized on several lists of distinction including Black Enterprise magazine's "Most Powerful Women in Business - Healthcare" and The Network Journal's "25 Influential Black Women in Business." Fortune Magazine featured Phyllis among business leaders "On the Rise" and Forbes highlighted her in "Diversity at the Top – Leading with Purpose." She also has been recognized by Savoy magazine, Diversity Journal and Ebony magazine. A leader in marketing, Phyllis has been a featured speaker at the World Health Care Congress, the Executive Leadership Council and the National Society of Hispanic MBA Association Conference.
