Annual fundraising tradition continues at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center
The holiday season is upon us!
Members of the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center Auxiliary have been working harder than Santa’s elves to make a difference for the community.
This year’s Love Light Tree Ceremony is Sunday, December 3rd.
“I like the fact that it allow people to donate as part of their family ‘thank yous’ or family remembrances,” says Auxiliary President Linda Krimmer, explaining how extraordinary the program is, “Christmas is a special time. It’s very special that people can do this and help out with the Love Light Tree.”
The Love Light Tree Ceremony has been a fundraiser for the Auxiliary dating back to 1986.
Members of the community buy a light on the Love Light Tree to express appreciation and gratitude for someone who has touched their lives. The Light can also be dedicated in memory or in honor of someone who’s no longer with us. That person’s name is then recorded and recognized in the Love Light Tree Album, displayed in the lobby of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center.
The suggested light donation is $15. Money raised during this campaign will be dedicated to Family Health Connection Mobile Clinics. Over the years, the Auxiliary has helped fund a number of projects, but the mobile health clinics have been especially dear to them because of the vast number of patients who wouldn’t receive care otherwise. The Family Health Connection Mobile Health Vans bring a light of hope to many in need of health care. To qualify for the program, patients must be 200% below the federal poverty line and reside in the region. In 2016 alone, the Mobile Health Clinics had 9,274 patient encounters.
“The Love Light Tree goes entirely to the mobile van,” explains Krimmer. “This supports the mobile van which, in turn, helps the community.”
Each year, the Auxiliary honors someone special by having them light the tree.
The Love Light Tree Ceremony is happening Sunday, December 3rd. The tree at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center’s visitors’ entrance will be lit at 5:30 p.m. The musicial group, SoundCHECK will also be there.
Donation forms can be found at both Information Desks, the Gift Shop and Outpatient Surgery Waiting Room. All donation are tax deductible.
