Debra Flores concludes 30-year Sentara career
Rita Bunch named interim President of Sentara CarePlex Hospital
Debra Flores, President of Sentara CarePlex Hospital, is concluding her 30-year career with Sentara Healthcare and assuming an executive leadership position with Valley Children’s Healthcare in California. In addition to her exceptional leadership as President of Sentara CarePlex Hospital for the last 10 years, Flores has held many leadership positions in the system including Vice President/Nurse Executive and Vice President of Operations at the Hampton hospital as well as Director of Physical Rehabilitation Services for several Southside hospitals.
Additionally, Flores has been an integral community leader, serving as a board member for the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA, chair of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and a member of organizations such as the Virginia Peninsula Rotary and American Heart Association Circle of Red. She also served as the chairman of the American Hospital Association Metropolitan Hospital Governance Council and as a member of the Hampton chapter of Links Incorporated. She is an alumna of Hampton University and Troy State University and graduated from both institutions with honors. Flores has also earned many significant awards; most recently she was named “2017 Woman of the Year” by the Alpha Chi chapter of Iota Phi Lambda, Inc., a national business and professional women’s sorority.

Rita Bunch has been appointed to serve as interim President of Sentara CarePlex Hospital effective October 6, 2017, following Flores’ resignation. Bunch joined Sentara Healthcare in June, 2016 as Vice President of Operations for Sentara CarePlex Hospital. Prior to that, she held numerous executive leadership positions in healthcare organizations across the country, most recently with Mercy Health West Hospital in Ohio.

Looking forward, Rita has a wealth of experience and knowledge related to managing complex clinical and administrative healthcare functions. I have the utmost confidence in her ability to effectively lead the hospital as we transition.”
Bunch holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health from East Tennessee State University. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has participated in many healthcare industry groups including the American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers, Red Cross Board and the Arc of High Point Board. Additionally, she co-chaired the United Way at Morristown Hamblen Hospital and High Point Regional Health.

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is a 224-bed hospital that offers advanced surgical programs, emergency cardiac intervention and fellowship-trained physicians. Additionally, it is a Certified Primary Stroke Center, is home to the Orthopaedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex Hospital – the area’s first dedicated orthopedic hospital, and recently achieved Magnet Excellence®. Sentara CarePlex Hospital is also introducing maternity services in January, 2018.
