Dr. Angela Taylor, PhD, has been promoted to the position of Executive Director and Dean of the Sentara College of Health Sciences. Taylor has been with the College for six years, serving the first two years as Dean of Nursing and the past four years as the Dean of Academic Affairs. Her new position became effective May 28, 2017.

“As a graduate of the Sentara diploma nursing program, I am very proud to continue Sentara's tradition of forging new paths in healthcare education and leading educational innovation. I am excited about the future of the College and look forward to fostering the growth of its high-quality programs,” said Taylor.

In her role as Dean of Academic Affairs, Taylor was responsible for the administrative management of Nursing and Allied Health programs, including oversight of curriculum, outcomes, regulatory and accreditation bodies, faculty support and development, and budgetary management. Her previous work experience includes faculty and nursing academic program leadership positions at Lynchburg College, the University of Virginia's College at Wise, and Christopher Newport University, as well as experience as a staff nurse and clinical educator.

Taylor received her diploma as a Registered Nurse from the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing, which later became the Sentara College of Health Sciences. She holds Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from Old Dominion University, and earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Virginia.

Taylor is replacing Shelly Cohen, who is retiring in June after leading the College for more than three decades.
