Two Sentara hospitals among IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals
Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center are among 100 Top Hospitals® showcased in the IBM Watson Health® 100 Top Hospitals listing for 2018. The annual study is based on analysis of performance against 11 clinical, operational and patient satisfaction metrics.
Top 100 hospitals achieve better risk-adjusted outcomes while maintaining lower costs and healthier operating margins than other peer hospitals. Performance metrics include survival rates, complications and infections, lengths of stay, ER wait times and patient satisfaction survey measures.
Sentara Leigh Hospital was listed for the fourth time among Teaching Hospitals and also received an Everest Award which honors hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years. Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center was listed for the second time among Medium Community Hospitals.
IBM Watson Health is an IBM business unit using data and predictive modeling to tackle cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other health issues. Sentara Healthcare was among the initial participating health systems in IBM Watson Health and contributed more than 3,000 echocardiograms to the program’s first studies around heart disease.
