Sentara Primary Plus Stroke Center

The Sentara Martha Jefferson Stroke Program is the first in the nation to receive certification from DNV GL Healthcare as a Primary Plus Stroke Center, reflecting that the program has the personnel, infrastructure and expertise to diagnose, treat and support stroke patients who require intensive, specialized medical and surgical care, specialized tests and interventional therapies.

Our doctors work closely with each patient to create an individualized treatment plan. Also, utilizing Sentara TeleStroke capabilities, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital’s team is able to assess a possible stroke patient at arrival and provide a specialized stroke evaluation within five minutes, ensuring that treatment can begin as quickly as possible.

Our neurologists take a unique team approach to care, working side-by-side with other specialists to help throughout your recovery journey.

To expand the reach of our stroke care services in our region, we recently opened a helipad, allowing faster transport service to Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital for critically ill patients, including patients experiencing stroke. Highly trained personnel using advanced medical equipment can now bring patients via hospital directly to our emergency department from outlying counties for services not available in those areas.
