When the time comes: Hip replacement
When Kerry Halbert of Chase City realized that walking across his yard to his garden was too painful to continue, he knew something had to be done.
“Sometimes my right hip would actually catch, and I’d have to stop walking and stand there,” Kerry remembers.
He waited for several months to see if the pain would go away, but it only became worse.
“I had some other procedures done at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital and was very satisfied, so I set out looking for an orthopedic doctor who was associated with the hospital,” Kerry says.
Making the decision
He made an appointment with Mesfin Shibeshi, D.O., of Sentara Southern Virginia Orthopedics.
“There was never any pressure from Dr. Shibeshi to choose the surgical option,” Kerry says. “He simply gave me the facts and let me make the decision. I never got the impression that he wanted me to make a quick decision.”
Ultimately, opting to receive total hip replacement surgery was the best decision Kerry could have made.
“The results are fantastic. I don’t even notice or think about my hip anymore,” Kerry says. “It’s like nothing was ever wrong.”
Kerry was especially thankful for Dr. Shibeshi’s expertise in total joint replacement.
“After the procedure, they told me that my hip joint was in much worse shape than originally anticipated. I think this speaks volumes about Dr. Shibeshi’s ability to overcome any unexpected obstacles that he may encounter during a procedure,” says Kerry.
