The Sentara Epilepsy Center has earned Level 3 accreditation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, making it the only comprehensive epilepsy center in Hampton Roads with this designation.

NAEC recognizes four levels of epilepsy care to help both patients and healthcare providers evaluate the appropriateness and quality of specialized epilepsy care. Level 3 centers provide the essential range of medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial services needed to treat patients with refractory epilepsy. Level 3 epilepsy centers also provide neurodiagnostic evaluations, fundamental medical, neuropsychological, and psychosocial services as well as noninvasive evaluation for epilepsy surgery and implantation of the vagus nerve stimulator.

“The Sentara Epilepsy Center provides patients an integrated system of quality clinical care with advanced monitoring technology, surgical capabilities and an on-site epilepsy specialist,” said Dr. Bruno Maton, Medical Director, Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Sentara Neurology Specialists. “This top-tier distinction clearly reflects our ability to provide the most comprehensive epilepsy care in Hampton Roads.”

“Having the most advanced and personalized epilepsy care can make a significant difference in a patient’s life,” said Dr. Hua Wang. “We are pleased to bring these services to the community and we encourage those with epilepsy to visit our center and learn more about the care we can provide.”

Sentara will continue to evolve services to ultimately achieve the highest designation of Level 4. To learn more about the Sentara Epilepsy Center, please visit the website or call 877-310-8713.
