Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Names New VP and COO
Carolyn Carpenter will join Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH) as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer effective September 11, 2017.
Carpenter is an experienced health care executive who enjoyed a 20-year career with Duke University Health System. For the past three years, she has served as chief operating officer for the system’s flagship, Duke University Hospital. Previously, Carpenter served as an associate dean and administrator for the Duke Cancer Institute and began her career at Duke in a strategic planning role before moving to operations
“Carolyn’s wealth of operational expertise in both an academic medical center and community hospital setting will benefit us greatly,” said Kurt Hofelich, corporate vice president and president of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. “Her long tenure at Duke in creating reputable clinical programs will be instrumental as we continue growing Sentara Norfolk General Hospital into a Mid-Atlantic destination medical center.”
Carpenter earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from the Medical College of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and an adjunct assistant professor for the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gillings School of Global Public Health.
