Level III Trauma Center
Hours: 24 hours daily
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is the region's only Level III trauma center, providing immediate, comprehensive and skilled medical and nursing care to the seriously injured patient. Trauma is the leading cause of death in the first four decades of life in the United States, surpassed only by cancer, heart disease and stoke as the leading cause of death in all age groups.
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital stands prepared 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide trauma care to our community in accordance with the principles and practices taught in the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course sponsored by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, and the Trauma Nursing Core Course sponsored by the Emergency Nurses Association.
Board-certified physicians and surgeons are immediately available to respond to all types of traumatic injury. Education and quality improvement programs ensure that patients will receive appropriate and comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, resuscitation, treatment and rehabilitation from pre-hospital care through discharge.
