Pediatric Inpatient Unit

The pediatric unit at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is a six-bed unit designed with pediatric patient needs in mind.

Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is the only hospital on the Peninsula offering a specialized pediatric care unit.

High-Quality, Specialized Medical Care

All children are assessed and treated by our caring and compassionate team that consists of registered nurses and board-certified pediatricians who specialize in the care of newborn, infants, children and adolescents.

Family-Friendly Rooms and Accommodations

Our pediatric rooms were designed with your child in mind. Each room is private and spacious, and can accommodate sleeping arrangements for parents and children. Each room has individual temperature monitoring to make your child’s stay as comfortable as possible. Parents who are visiting or staying with a child on the pediatric unit will receive complimentary meals delivered to the rooms. We also provide gaming systems in each room, complimentary Wi-Fi, and fun activities in our larger common play area.

Safety and Security

Your child’s safety and security during their stay with us is a top priority. The pediatric unit is locked at all times, and all nurses wear a hospital ID badge with a visible name and photo. Pediatric patients 12 and under, and at nurse’s discretion, will receive a security bracelet. A doorbell is located at the entrance of the pediatric unit to allow for secure access. You will have the option to provide a password to share with family and friends who have permission to visit your child.

Treatment Environment

Your child’s room is designed to promote comfort and rest. A procedure can be frightening for your child, so it is important for us to perform such procedures and treatments outside of their regular accommodation room. Treatment is performed in a specific room that has artwork and a television to assist with distractions. During the time of the treatment or procedure, you are invited to be with your child in the room to help them feel more comfortable and relaxed.
