Why Choose Sentara for Behavioral Health Services?
Sentara provides a comprehensive approach to mental health, offering a variety of treatment options and both inpatient and outpatient care.
Located within a nearby Sentara hospital, our behavioral health units can treat medical and psychiatric issues at the same time and offer a full range of diagnostic testing. Sentara Behavioral Health Specialists, a part of Sentara Medical Group, is also growing to support the outpatient needs of our community. We also provide follow-up care, including outpatient group therapy and medication management, to ensure an ongoing recovery.
Patients and their families are included in the process of treatment and recovery. We help patients realize that although they may not have full control over their symptoms, they do have control over their lives. This approach to mental health treatment is called the Recovery Model.
How Do I Get a Referral?
We encourage individuals to contact their primary care physician or current psychiatrist or psychologist if they feel like they need help coping or something has changed in how they’re feeling. However, at any time, should a patient feel they need immediate help or it is an emergency, they should go directly to any Sentara Emergency Room for evaluation. After meeting medical professionals and a psychiatrist to determine the best next steps for care, you may be referred to one of our three inpatient locations for care.
