To get an accurate idea about lymph node involvement, the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) recommend that at least 12 lymph nodes be removed during surgery to confirm the absence of nodal involvement by tumor. The Sentara Cancer Network exceeds national standards in removing the recommended 12 lymph nodes.
