Second Opinion Clinic

Getting a second opinion is your right as a cancer patient.

Second opinions are available for newly diagnosed cancer patients as well as for those who have experienced a change in their condition, such as reccurrence, and need reassessments or more extensive evaluations. We’ll talk to you about your health, your history and your priorities and you’ll have an expert team with you every step of the way. All cases are reviewed in a multidisciplinary conference to ensure the best individualized treatment plan for each patient. No matter what your treatment plan, your team will be there to guide you.

Getting a second opinion is simple.

  1. Call 1-855-998-EVMS to speak with our second opinion patient coordinator.
  2. During your appointment, your multidisciplinary physician team will review your situation with you and discuss appropriate treatment options. Your information will also be reviewed by a larger group of experts at the weekly multidisciplinary head and neck cancer conference.

Why should you seek a second opinion?

An accurate cancer diagnosis is critical. First, it is important to make sure your diagnosis is correct. Cancer is a complicated disease and it does take a level of sophistication and expertise to diagnosis correctly.

The most important treatment decision you will make is the first treatment. It is important that your cancer has been staged correctly. A clear understanding of the stage of your cancer and location will determine the best treatment plan for you.

Cancer treatment should be highly individualized. It is important that you gather as much information as possible and make an informed decision that is best for you and your quality of life. Clinical support services are available throughout your care. Nurse practitioners, nurse navigators, licensed clinical social workers, dieticians, educators and volunteers will provide support throughout your care journey.

Research and clinical trials can provide you access to leading-edge treatment options not widely available. Ask your physician if a clinical trial if right for you.
