Sentara in Suffolk COPN Update
Please see the below correspondence from Dr. Steve Julian, President, Sentara Obici Hospital regarding the Sentara Certificate of Public Need Application for a new hospital at Sentara BelleHarbour.
November 7, 2018
I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to our supporters of our application for a Certificate of Public Need (COPN) for a hospital at Sentara BelleHarbour. As you may know, the COPN staff of the Virginia Department of Health recommended approval of the Bon Secours Mercy application and denial of ours, which carries considerable weight with the Commissioner of Health. For a variety of reasons, we will not pursue additional options to win approval of our application at this time. An opportunity to develop a hospital may arise in the future and we will take appropriate action at that time.
The good news is that the COPN staff recommended approval of a state-of-the-art CT scanner at Sentara BelleHarbour, to bolster our considerable imaging assets on that campus.
In the meantime, we will continue expansion of services on the Sentara BelleHarbour campus, including opening an ambulatory surgery center in November.
Rest assured that Sentara BelleHarbour will continue as the medical destination for northern Suffolk. With a 24-hour emergency department, 14 observation beds and an FAA-approved helipad, ambulatory surgery, outpatient services and medical offices and state-of-the-art imaging, Sentara BelleHarbour will continue growing to meet the needs of our community.
Again, I thank you for your support, and should you need medical services in northern Suffolk, 24 hours a day, I hope you will choose Sentara BelleHarbour as your health care partner.
