Chris A. Lumsden is the president of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital located in South Boston, Virginia and serving a five-county area in Southern Virginia. Lumsden, who has more than 30 years of healthcare experience, joined Sentara in July 2013, when Halifax Regional Health System merged with Sentara.
Prior to joining Sentara, Lumsden served as chief executive officer of Halifax Regional Health System. During his tenure, which began in 1985, Lumsden worked to create an integrated health system which could provide a full continuum of care to Southern Virginia residents. He worked to open, and later expand, the system’s second long term care facility. He also acquired four family practice facilities, two specialty practices and open four additional specialty practices. He oversaw the expansion of Halifax Regional Hospital with its addition of three new patient floors, emergency department renovation and expansion, and overall improved patient satisfaction scores in the hospital. Lumsden is a staunch advocate for advanced technology with a personal touch, and led Halifax employees through the organization’s development of core values which are the foundation of all patient and resident care.

Lumsden, a native of Roanoke, Virginia, moved to South Boston in 1985 with his wife, Linda. The couple has two grown children. Lumsden enjoys playing golf, fishing, spending time with his family, and playing with his two labs.
