School of Medical Laboratory Science
The School of Medical Laboratory Science offers training as a medical laboratory scientist and was started in 1968. The school offers the opportunity to enter a challenging and highly technical career in the health care industry. Graduates may be employed by hospitals, private or government laboratories, research facilities, medical supply companies, private physician offices and clinics. Some of our graduates continue to pursue an education in medicine and become physicians.
With regard to outcome measures, the Sentara RMH School of Medical Laboratory Science has had a 100% pass rate on the ASCP Board of Certification exam for the last 17 years. Also, the three year average graduation rate percentage is 97.4%, and the three year average placement rate percentage is 94.7%.
Sentara RMH Medical Center was founded in 1912 and is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The hospital is a not-for-profit institution that is fully accredited by DNV and is a community-based regional healthcare facility licensed for 266 beds. The Sentara RMH Medical Center School of Medical Laboratory Science is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency For Clinical Laboratory Sciences and admits from four to eight students in January and June. Future expansion of the school is being planned to accommodate 12 students per class in January and in June.

The Sentara RMH School of Medical Laboratory Science is certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
It is the mission of the Sentara RMH School of Medical Laboratory Science to graduate beginning beginning Medical Laboratory Scientists with the skills, knowledge, motivation and insight to excel in the practice of laboratory medicine and to pass national certification examinations. These graduates will be motivated to continue their education and to become our future educators, leaders, innovators and managers in the laboratory. The School will remain on the cutting edge of laboratory education, providing the students with a curriculum that is current and responsive to the dynamic healthcare environment.
