Head and Neck Cancer
Learning you have a cancer of the head or neck may be difficult to hear, and you may have fear or uncertainty about what comes next. With the Sentara Cancer Network on your side, you will have a dedicated head and neck oncology team with expertise to guide you, treat you and support you throughout your journey.
Sentara Cancer Network brings together specialized and sub-specialized physicians and clinicians and gives them access to advanced technology, research and each other - a powerful combination in the fight against cancer. For head and neck specifically, our providers partner with Eastern Virginia Medical School to further advance available treatments.
In the 2019-20 report, U.S. News and World Report ranked the ear, nose and throat program, which includes head and neck cancer, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in the top-50 programs in the nation. Our team was also the first in Virginia to introduce TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS), a minimally invasive surgical procedure for removing tumors in the throat and voice box (larynx).
In addition to bringing a higher level of care close to home, Sentara Cancer Network goes beyond diagnosis and treatment. When you are under our care, we also listen, answer questions, and ensure your priorities are reflected in the personalized care plan developed. Our team members will also guide you to more information, resources, support groups and whatever else you may need. We know it takes more than medicine to help you heal, and Sentara is committed to caring for you and your family through the process.
Wherever you are in your journey, Sentara will be there to help you to the next step like we were for Larry. Read his story and even more patient stories to see how Sentara Cancer Network could make a difference in your life.
