The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes family was awestricken by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Hospital and Health Networks Most Wired Award
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is honored to be selected for this year’s Hospital and Health Networks Most Wired award for 2016 . Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is included with other Sentara Hospitals as well as other health systems that are meeting the industry standard for measuring IT adoption for operational, financial and clinical performance in health care delivery systems. This year a focus on IT security measures, telehealth and population health were added to the measurement.
Soliant Health Most Beautiful Hospital in America
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital was recognized by Soliant Health as the 2012 Most Beautiful Hospital in America.
DNV Stroke Award
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital has received national accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center by Det Norke Veritas (DNV) Healthcare.
Sentara Martha Jefferson Stroke Center is now recognized for using the highest standards and proven methods to achieve successful outcomes for stroke patients. This certification validates that staff responding to stroke are following the best methods to identify and fast track stroke patients so that doctors can begin brain-saving treatments immediately.
The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) recently awarded Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville a three-year accreditation. The NAPBC recognizes hospitals that are committed to breast health and improving the quality of care. The certification process examines program leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is pleased to announce its replacement hospital has been awarded LEED® certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
"Partner for Change Award" Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital received a 2010 "Partner for Change Award" from Practice Greenhealth for our commitment to environmentally responsible operations.
Sentara Martha Jefferson was the first independent community hospital in Virginia to achieve Magnet® designation—an award achieved by less than 7 percent of hospitals nation-wide in 2006 and was re-designated in 2011 and 2016.
