Adult volunteer program
The Volunteers are a vital part of Sentara Obici Hospital. We invite you to become part of our Volunteer team and to explore the many volunteer opportunities we offer.
Adult volunteers consist of anyone over the age of 18 who would like to make a difference and serve in the Hospital. Volunteers are required to serve at least one 3-4 hour shift per week. Volunteers are placed throughout the Hospital and contribute thousands of hours each year to support the Hospitals mission "To Improve health every day."
Volunteers can assist in the following areas:
- Information desk
- Gift shop
- Nursing units
- Surgical waiting area
- Golf cart
- Food services
- Pet therapy program (you must have your own certified dog)
- Interview with Volunteer Coordinator
- Completed required education/orientation
- Complete employee health requirements
- Submit to a criminal background check
- Annual training

Summer Junior Volunteer Program
Sentara Obici Hospital offers a structured summer junior volunteer program that aims to offer high school students an opportunity to volunteer in a hospital setting and learn about the healthcare environment from staff and other volunteers. There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available. The program takes place June - August and has limited space available.
Junior volunteers must be 15 years old before June 1st with a "B" or better grade point average in school.
Junior Volunteer Requirements - Applicants must comply with the requirements listed below:
- Complete a junior volunteer application
- Interview with volunteer coordinator
- Complete employee health requirements
- Copy of most recent grades or report card
- Attend a one-time orientation session
- Copy of childhood immunizations
- Annual training (e.g., confidentiality agreement) for returning volunteers.
