Vascular Screening

When it comes to your health, sometimes what you can’t see can hurt you. Many people don’t know they have vascular disease, a condition that can result in serious health issues including stroke. It’s hard to detect because, in its early stages, it often has few symptoms. But simple, painless ultrasound screenings can detect problems, allowing your doctor to treat them and keep you healthy.

The purpose of a vascular screening is:

  • To screen for blockages in the blood vessels of the neck (carotid arteries) that may lead to stroke;
  • To screen for an aneurysm, or enlargement, of the aorta (large blood vessel in abdomen) that may rupture and cause death; and
  • To screen for blockages in the blood vessels in the legs that may cause disabling pain when walking.
