New Sentara Albemarle Medical Center president named
Coleen Santa Ana, MHA, has been named the new president of Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, N.C. Santa Ana is an experienced hospital administrator currently serving as a senior strategist with Norfolk, Va. based Sentara Healthcare. She helped draft the Sentara proposal to lease the hospital and has been helping lead the integration initiative since Sentara took over operations in March 2014. She will replace interim president Kenneth W. Wood, who plans to retire.
“Ken and I have worked closely together for the last nine months and his leadership of our dedicated team has put Sentara Albemarle on a positive path,” said Santa Ana. “I’m excited to relieve Ken after such a great start and I see a bright future.”
Santa Ana recently completed a strategic plan for Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, approved by the local advisory board, which lays out a multi-year vision for capital spending, physician recruitment and program development.
“Coleen has developed a wealth of knowledge about Sentara Albemarle Medical Center and the community,” said Sentara corporate vice president Mary Blunt, to whom Santa Ana will report. “Her experience in administration and strategic planning will help her keep up our positive momentum.”
Santa Ana holds a master's degree in Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelors Degree in Health Administration from James Madison University with minors in Business and Psychology. She worked for Sentara from 1999 to 2003 and went on to executive leadership roles at hospitals in Colorado and Nevada before returning to Sentara as a senior strategist in 2012.
Santa Ana will begin a transition week on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 and plans to live in the Elizabeth City area.
