Sentara RMH Medical Center names new president
Sentara RMH Medical Center has named Douglas J. Moyer as its new president. Moyer is a long-time resident of the Richmond/Petersburg area and will start at Sentara RMH on Jan. 3, 2017.
Since 2000, Moyer has been with Community Health Systems (CHS) Virginia Hospital Network, based in Petersburg. Since 2014, he has served as chief executive officer for CHS Virginia Hospital Network and for CHS/Southside Regional Medical Center, also in Petersburg.
“I am impressed with the reputation of Sentara RMH in the Valley region, as well as Sentara Healthcare across Virginia,” said Moyer. “I am honored to be joining such a strong organization and my wife and I know the Harrisonburg community will be a great place to raise our boys.”
Moyer began his health care career as an athletic trainer in a sports medicine physical therapy setting. From 1998-1999 he was director of physical therapy/program development for Johns Hopkins Health System, where he completed his administrative residency and fellowship.
Moyer received his bachelor of science in community health from Ohio University, and his master of science in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He and his wife, Lori, have two sons ages 10 and 12. In his spare time he enjoys family activities, golf, sailing, fishing and baseball.
Moyer is replacing Jim Krauss, who retired in June after 15 years with the hospital, first as senior vice president and chief operating officer and as president since 2007.
