Chris A. Lumsden, President of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital will retire March 31, 2018, after more than 30 years of leadership and vision at Halifax Regional Health System and Sentara Healthcare. Jason Studley will succeed Lumsden as President of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.

"We thank Chris for the hard work, leadership, passion, and enthusiasm he has poured into his time at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital over the past 33 years," said Carol Thomas, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital Board Chair and Sentara Healthcare Board Member. "He leaves an outstanding legacy that places Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in a robust position for new leadership to take the reins and excel. We have every confidence that Jason will be a strong, impactful leader for our division as we move forward."

Lumsden announced his decision to retire in September, 2017 which prompted the search for his successor to ensure a smooth and successful transition of leadership. Jason Studley, Lumsden's successor, has served as President and CEO of Trinity Hospital of Augusta in Augusta, Georgia for the last five years.

Studley's previous experience includes serving as CEO of LV Stabler Memorial Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. He gained additional expertise at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Studley received his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from Truman State University, and his Master of Healthcare Administration from Austin Peay State University. He is actively pursuing a Doctor of Health Administration degree from A.T. Still University.

"Sentara Healthcare has built a strong reputation as the go-to provider for high-quality health care delivery," said Jason Studley. "Many health care organizations struggle to act on emerging trends, maintain a culture centered on high-quality/low-risk care, and provide a patient-centered experience. Sentara is the exception and I am honored to join the visionary leaders of the Halifax Division as President. Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital is uniquely positioned to architect the delivery of health care that truly connects the communities it serves." Studley stated.

In the coming months, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital will work with Jason and his family to support their transition and his start date will be forthcoming.  The Board of Directors, Sentara Halifax leadership and medical staff will work together with Studley during the transition before Lumsden officially retires and Studley takes the reins of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.
