Patient Information

As part of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, the Sentara Wound Healing Center can call upon a multi-disciplinary team. Our team of physicians and nurses, certified in wound care, have an array of specialized tools and wound dressings to meet your individual needs. You are a vital part of the healthcare team. You will participate in creating a wound care plan that will work for you.

With the center adjoining the hospital, patients have easy access to other valuable health services, such as the Sentara Heart and Vascular Center, to help them manage any underlying conditions. What's more, our diabetes management team is right upstairs.

How to Make an Appointment

To make an appointment, call us at 703-523-0660. An official referral from your doctor is not needed unless mandated by your insurance. Referrals may be faxed to 571-542-9965.

What to Expect

  • At your first appointment, we will perform an in-depth physical exam and obtain a detailed medical history. We will require a full list of all the medications you are taking. If any further tests, such as cultures, X-rays or laboratory blood work, are needed, they will be ordered. Often these tests can be obtained on the same day.
  • Your wounds will be dressed and further dressing changes will be tailored to your needs. We will order specialty dressing products you may need at home and schedule your follow-up visit.
  • We will stay in contact with your primary care or family physician throughout your treatment at the Sentara Wound Healing Center.
