At Sentara Hospitals, we support new nurse graduates as they embark on their professional journey. In partnership with the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ (NRP), we offer a Nurse Residency Program for all new graduate nurses starting their career. This one-year program, conducted on a monthly basis within a cohort structure, offers educational and emotional assistance to assist newly graduated nurses in their transition from the student phase to that of a professional nurse. It connects new graduates with opportunities to learn, improve and grow by focusing on three key areas: leadership, patient outcomes, and professional roles.
All new nursing graduates at Sentara either join cohorts for the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program or Periop 101 Internships for the operating room or the ED Internship for emergency nursing.
