At Sentara, we know that childbirth is a precious, life-changing event. That's why our Women's Health Center was designed for you – to provide exceptional care and support as you welcome your newest family member into the world.
Our delivery and baby care spaces were designed for the comfort and safety of parents and their new babies, from all private rooms to an advanced infant security system. In addition, our 14-bed NICU is managed in partnership with Children's National Health System to provide expert care to our tiniest new arrivals. What To Expect

What We Offer:

- 24/7 obstetric anesthesia and neonatal in-house coverage, including a seamless transfer process for our patients who need a higher level of care.

- Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) program.
- 14-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), providing specialized care in partnership with Children's National Health System neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners.
- "Skin to Skin" contact, if desired, for at least the first hour of life to help calm the newborn, aid in regulating body temperature, facilitate breastfeeding and promote bonding.
- Comprehensive breastfeeding education and support from both clinical staff and board-certified lactation consultants.
- Prenatal prep classes to help you prepare for your delivery and caring for your new baby.
- State-of-the-art infant security system for the safety of your newborn.
- Wireless fetal monitors so moms in labor can ambulate (walk) while you are in labor with continuous monitoring of your baby's heart rate.
- An outdoor courtyard within the Women's Health Center where families and siblings may visit.
- Personalized guidance during your pregnancy from our Women's Health Nurse Navigator.
- Care coordination provided with discharge to help you transition to home with a post discharge follow-up phone call by our Women's Health Nurse Navigator to check on mom and baby.
