Sentara Consumer Alert: Beware of phishing scams labeled ‘MyChart Medicare Kit.’

Patients across the U.S. have been receiving fraudulent emails claiming “Your MyChart Medicare Kit Awaits.” These emails are not from Sentara Health or MyChart. They are phishing scams, designed to trick you into clicking on malicious links, or sharing sensitive personal information.

If you receive an email like this, just delete it. Do not click on any links (including an unsubscribe button, which is also a link). Do not provide personal or financial information, or take any actions that may expose you to fraud.

Here are some ways to help protect yourself from phishing scams:

  • Confirm the sender’s email address. Hover your cursor over the address to see if it looks to be legitimate.
  • Be cautious of offers for free kits, rewards, coupons, gift cards, or prizes.
  • Pay attention to spelling and grammar mistakes.
  • Avoid sharing any personal information by email.
  • Resist messages pressuring you for immediate action.
  • Do not open attachments from unsolicited or unfamiliar emails.
