Nine Sentara hospitals in Virginia have received “A” grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit focused on patient safety, outcomes, and value in health care.

For 25 years, The Leapfrog Group has collected, analyzed, and published hospital data on safety, outcomes, quality, and resource usage. The goal is to empower people to make more informed healthcare decisions.

The following Sentara hospitals achieved “A” ratings for safety from Leapfrog for 2025:

Sentara Leigh Hospital and Sentara CarePlex Hospital are two of just 11 U.S. hospitals with 28 consecutive “A”s from Leapfrog. About 32% of hospitals earned an “A” grade for fall 2025.

Hospitals with an "A" grade excel in 22 evidence-based measures by working to protect patients from harm and improve outcomes such as length-of-stay, hospital-acquired infections and readmissions, and mortality rates.
