Sentara Health, the largest integrated health system in Virginia and one of the state’s largest private employers, has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best-In-State Employers in 2025.

This prestigious award is presented by Forbes and Statista, a leading market research firm.

Sentara ranked 36 out of 90 Virginia employers on the list and is the fifth-ranked healthcare employer.

Forbes and Statista compiled the ranking by surveying more than 160,000 employees working for companies of at least 500 people within the U.S.

Survey respondents were asked if they would recommend their employer and to evaluate their workplace on criteria like wage parity, work culture, paths to professional advancement, and whether the employer takes action on serious issues such as sexual harassment.

Participants were also asked to evaluate previous employers within the last two years and organizations they knew within their industry through friends or family who work there.

Responses were incorporated into a scoring system, along with survey data from the past three years.

In addition to this latest recognition, Forbes designated Sentara as a “Best-in-State Employer” in 2024, “Best Employer for Veterans” in 2023, “Best Employer for New Grads” in 2022, “Best Employer for Women” in 2020, and one of “America’s Best Employers” in 2018.
