System chief nursing officer selected as Fellow of American Academy of Nursing
Amber Price recognized as nurse leader poised to continue transforming health care for years to come
Sentara Health is pleased to announce that Senior Vice President and System Chief Nursing Officer Amber Price has been selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, one of the highest honors in nursing.
Fellows are selected based on their outstanding contributions to improve health locally and globally. The newest Fellows, selected from a competitive pool of candidates, represent 39 states, the District of Columbia, and 17 countries.
“It is a privilege to celebrate these remarkable nurse leaders whose vision, dedication, and accomplishments represent the very best of our profession,” Debra J. Barksdale, president of the American Academy of Nursing, said in a release.
“Through evidence-based innovation, leadership, and scholarship, they have improved outcomes, shaped policy and practice, strengthened nursing education and care delivery, and advanced scalable solutions that promote healthy lives for all people.”
“It is an honor to be named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and to join a distinguished community of nurse leaders dedicated to advancing health and improving care globally, and across our nation,” said Price.
“This recognition reflects not only my personal journey, but also the extraordinary commitment of the nurses, clinicians, and healthcare teams I have had the privilege to serve alongside throughout my career.”
“At Sentara, we are committed to fostering innovation, excellence, and compassion in nursing,” Price added, “and I am proud to represent our organization and the nursing profession as we work together to create healthier communities and shape the future of healthcare.”
Price joined Sentara Health in 2022 as president of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. In this executive role, she drove clinical innovation by launching a trauma program, an obstetric hospitalist program, and a minimally invasive gynecologic surgery program. A champion for patient-centered environments and workforce advocacy, Price also designed clinical spaces that promote respectful maternity care and inclusion for individuals with disabilities and sensory needs, while simultaneously advancing robust employee wellness initiatives.
Throughout her career, she has focused on a dual mission: improving patient care and supporting the well-being of the healthcare workforce. Known for her innovative care delivery models, she has made a profound national impact on maternal health. This expertise is rooted in her foundational clinical experience as a certified nurse-midwife who personally delivered more than 1,000 babies. Price is also an accomplished author who has contributed extensively to medical literature through numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Price and the 2026 inductees will be recognized for their contributions to health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, scheduled for October 8–10, 2026 in Washington, D.C.
