Sentara RMH Medical Center recognized among nation’s best heart hospitals
Sentara RMH Medical Center has been nationally recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals.
Sentara RMH was one of only two Virginia hospitals to earn the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals distinction for 2026 and was ranked #4 in the Top community hospitals category. The list was based on an independent quality analysis provided by Premier.
“Being included on Modern Healthcare’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals list is a tremendous honor and reflects our continued focus on delivering exceptional patient care,” said Doug Moyer, president of Sentara RMH Medical Center. “This recognition highlights the commitment of our physicians, nurses, and staff to providing high quality, patient focused care every day.”
“We're really excited to see this recognition from Modern Healthcare, and to be in their top 50 cardiovascular hospitals list for 2026,” said Robert Garwood, M.D., market chief medical officer at Sentara RMH Medical Center.
“Being on this list is recognition that our hospital provides superior patient outcomes, higher operational efficiency, a higher patient experience, and extended outcomes to our community each and every day.”
The primary purpose of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals program is to provide data-driven benchmarks that hospital leaders can use to better understand performance variation and improve care for heart patients nationwide. Hospitals do not apply to participate in the study, and recognized organizations do not pay for this distinction.
“Cardiovascular care is one of the most complex and impactful service lines in healthcare,” said David Zito, president of performance services at Premier. “The 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals program highlights organizations delivering strong outcomes while providing hospital leaders with meaningful benchmarks to help improve care.”
Comprehensive cardiovascular care spans several departments, clinical disciplines, and hundreds of Sentara RMH colleagues.
“It is recognition of the selfless work our providers, nurses and technicians give our patients here at Sentara RMH and our community in large,” Dr. Garwood added.
