Diabetes Self-Management Classes

A referral is necessary from the participant's healthcare provider to sign up for group classes. In the class series, participants will learn more about self-management of diabetes and gain valuable support in a group setting. Sessions will be led by a Diabetes Care & Education Specialist and registered dietitian to provide a deeper understanding of diabetes with accompanying resource materials on topics to include healthy eating, being active, monitoring blood sugar, taking medications, healthy coping, and reducing risks. The group classes are based on providing knowledge and skills that will aid in developing individualized action plans for making healthy behavior changes to aid in/optimize diabetes self-management and reaching their desired level of management. This class series consists of four weekly classes held on Wednesdays. A portion of the cost is covered by Medicare and most insurance companies. Additional directions:

This class series will be held in person at Sentara RMH. Participants can park in Parking Lot A and enter through the front entrance doors of the hospital. Each participant is asked to arrive 15 minutes before start of class as they will need to register and then be directed to the appropriate conference room.

Participants may choose to attend this class series in person or virtually using Zoom. Each participant attending virtually will need to log in to Zoom and join the meeting 10-15 minutes before start of classes. A recurring Zoom link will be provided following registration for the class series.
