Diabetes Self-Management Group Class - January

Event Details

A referral is necessary from participant's healthcare provider in order to sign up for group classes. In the class series participants will learn more about self-management of diabetes and gain valuable support in a group setting.

Sessions are led by a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and Registered Dietitian to provide a deeper understanding and resource materials on topics to include:

  • healthy eating
  • being active
  • monitoring blood sugar
  • taking medications
  • reducing risks

The group classes are based on providing knowledge and skills that will aid in developing action plans for making healthy behavior changes to aid in/optimize diabetes self-management and reaching their desired level of management.

Each class series (offered throughout the year) consist of four weekly classes held on Wednesdays. Some are day classes and some evening classes are also available. A portion of the cost is covered by Medicare and most insurances.

Additional directions:

Classes are held at Sentara RMH and participants can park in Parking Lot A and enter through the front entrance doors. Each participant is asked to arrive 10-15 minutes before start of class as they will need to register and then be directed to the appropriate conference room.
