Free medication and sharps disposal

There are three locations that are available for medication and sharps collections.

What we accept:

• Unwanted prescriptions or over-the counter medications.
• Household medical sharps in puncture proof containers.
• At the main hospital location only, a pharmacist will collect unopened, unexpired prescription medications in their original manufacturer packaging.

All medications the pharmacist approves, and collects will be for redistribution to individuals in need. For questions about this program or the permanent medication drop off box, call 434-654-3350 for more information.

All other medications will be handled by the Albemarle County Police Department and properly destroyed. Medical waste from commercial organizations will not be accepted.
