Free medication and sharps disposal

Rockingham County Sheriff's Department will be collecting unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and household medical sharps that are in puncture-proof containers.

Unwanted medications will be handled by the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department and properly destroyed. Aerosol and liquid medications may not be accepted. Medical waste from commercial organization will not be accepted.

A Sentara pharmacist will be available to collect unopened, unexpired prescription medications in their original manufacturer packaging. All medications the pharmacist approves and collects will be for redistribution to individuals in need.
