Unwanted medication and sharps day

There are three locations to choose from with different operating hours. All events will take place on Saturday October 24, 2026.

What we accept:

Join us for our biannual medication and sharps drop off event. This drive-up event makes it easy to dispose of expired, old, or unwanted medication and used sharps. All sharps *must* be in a puncture proof container, such as a coffee grounds tin or milk jug.

There will be a pharmacist to collect approved medication to be redistributed to individuals in need at the *main hospital only*. For questions about that program or about the permanent medication drop off box, call 434-654-3350.

Albemarle County Police Department handles and properly destroys all other medication. Medical waste from commercial organizations will not be accepted.
