Unwanted medication and sharps day

There are three options for community drop off spots during the biannual event:

What we accept:

Unwanted and expired prescriptions or over-the counter medications, Household medical sharps (syringes and needles) in a puncture-proof container (Only during April and October events), and Human and animal medication.

This is a free, anonymous event. All medications will be handled by the Albemarle County Police Department and properly destroyed. Sharps are handled by Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. No medical waste from commercial organizations will be accepted.

There is a permanent medication drop off box at the Sentara Martha Jefferson Outpatient Pharmacy. The box is accessible from 9 AM - 5 PM Monday- Friday, or when the Pharmacy is open. It is a free and anonymous way to drop off unwanted pills and patches. Liquid medication is not accepted. For our drive-through event, join us in April and October for our Medication and Sharps drop off.
