Medical emergencies can sometimes come on suddenly, making immediate care in the emergency department important. Here are some examples of these emergencies.

  • Chest pain or difficulty breathing of any type
  • Dizziness, weakness, change in vision, slurred speech or the inability to speak
  • Drooping or numbness on one side of the body or face
  • Head injuries, loss of consciousness, fainting, confusion or seizures
  • Head, neck or spine injuries
  • High or sustained fevers
  • Injury due to a motor vehicle accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, broken bones or a deep or large wound
  • Poisoning
  • Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy
  • Vomiting or coughing up blood
