Proprium Pharmacy wins accreditation with a score of 100%

Sentara founded Proprium Pharmacy in 2016 to better manage high-cost, high-touch specialty medications for more than three thousand patients with Cystic Fibrosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Chron’s Disease, HIV and other complex conditions with intense medication management.  

These medicines often require special handling, disposal and monitoring, and patient education to ensure proper self-administration and adherence to the regimen. Proprium Pharmacy staff are available around the clock to help patients achieve the best clinical outcomes and value for these expensive medications. The Proprium team fields about 13,000 patient calls per month.

Now, Proprium Pharmacy has achieved accreditation as a Specialty Pharmacy program from URAC, a non-profit group using evidence-based measures and best practices to set new standards of care. After review of Proprium’s application and justification over several months, URAC awarded Proprium Pharmacy accreditation with a score of 100%.

Proprium Pharmacy recently won third place in the annual CEO Award competition at Sentara for improving customer service, achieving cost savings and deriving new revenue by transitioning specialty pharmacy services from an outside vendor to in-house management.
