Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital COVID-19 Memorial
We want to share with you a very special memorial that has been placed in the healing garden on the Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital Campus. This memorial is in memory of all those individuals who lost their battle with COVID-19.
Vance Midgett, Chaplain, said "As we reflect on the lasting legacy of our patients who lost their battle with COVID-19 they remain in our hearts and thoughts as lasting lights of love and legacy for who they were, how they fought, and the many ways they touched and changed our lives."
"We never imagined the impact COVID-19 would have on our community. Some patients improved and were able to leave our building, but some patients did not. To the families and loved ones of those patients, we want you to know that each and every one of those patients were special to us. We want you to know that we share in your loss and grief. We hope you know that we will never forget your loved ones and the impact they had on our lives," said Keisha Jackson, Clinical Manager, Intensive Care Unit.
"The year of 2020, especially the winter, was dark, long, and scary. As we stand here on this spring day we look forward to the future with hope; hope in vaccination, hope in caring, and hoping that this pandemic will soon be behind us. We continue to move forward but we will always move forward with remembrance of those who have passed before us and we will recognize and think of them every day for the rest of our lives," said Brian Zwoyer, President of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.
We would like to invite the community to visit the memorial in our healing garden and take moment to remember those in our community who lost their battle with COVID-19. The memorial can be found in the healing garden between the hospital and the physicians pavilion.
